Mr. Levy is a consultant to Bartram & Cochran, has his own New York City based real estate advisory firm, and serves variously as Adjunct Professor and Clinical Associate Professor at the Real Estate Institute of New York University. He has extensive experience in real estate transactions, dispute resolution, real estate and construction finance, loan restructurings and workouts, corporate real estate, urban redevelopment, strategic planning, expert testimony/litigation support, and complex valuation. He has supervised real estate and construction activities in 40 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and North and South America.
Mr. Levy was Managing Director for Real Estate Finance at Chase Manhattan Bank and Senior Vice President & General Manager of the Real Estate and Corporate Services Division of Chemical Bank. He is a member of the National Roster of Neutrals of the American Arbitration Association (AAA), arbitrator for National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and certified as a mediator and arbitrator and "chair qualified" by the Counselors of Real Estate (CRE).
Recent assignments include:
- Neutrally selected or party-appointed arbitrator in a wide range of real estate, construction and securities industry disputes
- Expert testimony/litigation support services on real estate and construction loan disputes and standards of practice for real estate professionals
- Business representation in major commercial lease transactions and the acquisition, financing and disposition of real estate assets
- Formulation of strategic corporate real estate plan for major financial firm
- Provided training in real estate and construction loan underwriting, corporate real estate, and negotiation
Mr. Levy was primary drafter of Arbitration Rules for the Real Estate Industry (Including a Mediation Alternative) sponsored by the American Arbitration Association and primary drafter of the CRE Real Estate Dispute Resolution Program's Protocol and its Rules.
He has been a director of the American Arbitration Association, Community Preservation Corp., Housing Development Corp., Grand Central Partnership, Community Partnership Development Corp.; and a member of State of New York Mortgage Agency and Wharton School Real Estate Center advisory boards.
Mr. Levy has lectured at Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Wharton, Columbia, Tuck and Darden Business Schools and at MIT.
He was Editor-in-Chief and co-author of Arbitration of Real Estate Valuation Disputes (AAA) and author of Construction Loan Decision-Making and contributing author of a number of books including Corporate Real Estate Handbook (McGraw-Hill), Institutional Real Estate Strategies (Urban Land Institute) and Modern Real Estate Financing (Little Brown).
He has spoken to a wide range of industry and professional conferences including events sponsored by ABA, AICPA, ULI, CoreNet Global, CRE, SIOR, MBA, AI, RICS and USAID.
Mr. Levy holds a B.A. from Columbia University and an M.A. from Harvard University and is a graduate of the Chemical Bank Executive Management Program conducted by Faculty of Harvard Business School and Yale School of Management.
